Mr. Worthington is one of the founding teachers at Valor Christian High School and teaches Honors Biology, Marine Science, and AP Biology. Prior to Valor, DuWayne taught for 18 years in Hawaii on the island of Oahu. Five of those years were at Punahou High School, the former school of President Barak Obama. In getting his graduate degree, DuWayne has done scientific research involving SCUBA diving in Kwajalein (Marshall Islands), Oahu, Midway Island (Hawaii), Tahiti, and Mo’orea. He also traveled twice to Australia on semester long science field trips, as well as to New Zealand and Fiji. Mr. Worthington is a wonderful story teller and uses his experiences to engage and excite students as they learn in his classroom. DuWayne now leads a Discovery trip to Cozumel, Mexico where students SCUBA dive to study fish families, work with the government to study sea turtle nesting ecology, and swim with whale sharks, as well as work with a local evangelical group called “Servants for Jesus”. Besides his passion for what he teaches, DuWayne also has a passion for sports but he especially loves the niche sports such as golf, hacky-sac, foosball, ping-pong, ultimate Frisbee, billiards, and bowling. His love for sports gives him yet another opportunity to interact with students and help them with their relationship with God. DuWayne has been married to his wife Gretchen since 1994, and they have two children, Kaylin and Mark. Kaylin attends CSU and Mark is a student at Valor.
