Valor finishes third against Lakewood and Golden

On Saturday, April 15, the boys swim and dive team competed at the Carmody Recreation Center with Lakewood High School and Golden High School. Final scores were Lakewood 114, Golden 110, Valor Christian 77.

The 200 medley relay consisting of Lenny Den, Caleb Kim, Matthew Wyatt and Mitch Peotter swam to a second place in 1:45.85, a State Qualifying time. Matthew Siegler placed third in the B heat 200 freestyle, and Liam Dooley and Kyle McCarty finished first and third in the A heat. Mitch Peotter competed in his first ever 200 IM, clocking 2:47.67 while finishing fourth in the B heat, and Dylan Jessen went 2:29.64 in the A heat, finishing fifth. In the B heat 50 freestyle, Alex Warren touched third with 26.38, and Tyler Armstrong brought home points in fifth place in a time of 36.26. The A heat 50 freestyle brought second and fourth places for Valor  – Caleb Kim and Lenny Den sprinting in at 23.19 SQ and 23.67 SQ.

Adam Valdes (127.85 points) and Aaron Ward (118.70 points) pressed the 1 Meter springboard to finish the B division six-dive competition with first and second places, and Matthew King had a strong second place finish in the A division (197.45 points SQ).  

In the 100 butterfly, Matthew Wyatt placed fourth with a 58.81 SQ. Matthew Siegler looked sharp (1:07.15), garnering fourth in the B heat of the 100 freestyle. In the A heat 100 freestyle, Kyle McCarty raced to a second place with a 53.18 SQ. Next up was the B heat of the grueling 500 freestyle, where Caleb Kim (5:23.41 SQ) placed first overall and Mitch Peotter came in third (6:37.93). In the 500 freestyle A heat, Lenny Den and Matthew Wyatt swam the entire distance butterfly, finishing fifth and sixth in 6:17.11 and 6:47.45. Next up, the B heat 200 freestyle relay of Tyler Armstrong, Chris Chen, Matthew Siegler and Brian Redington placed third with a 2:16.61. The A heat 200 freestyle relay of Liam Dooley, Alex Warren, Kyle McCarty and Caleb Kim fought to a victory with a 1:35.59 SQ.  

Alex Waren clocked 1:17.42 in the B heat 100 breaststroke to garner second place for Valor. Liam Dooley and Dylan Jessen carried the team in the A heat 100 breaststroke, placing second (1:04.51 SQ) and fourth (1:09.67) respectively.

The meet ended with the 400 freestyle relay, where our B heat team of Tyler Armsrong, Brian Redington, Mitch Peotter and Dylan Jessen placed third with a finishing time of 4:48.68. Matthew Wyatt, Lenny Den, Kyle McCarty and Liam Dooley finished at 3:33.53 SQ in third in the A heat.  There were a lot of great swims from all three teams at this meet, and next week we look forward to participating in the championship format Jeffco Invitational Meet on Friday and Saturday, April 21 and 22.
