The Valor Conservatory had a powerful start to the semester last week with its Conservatory Showcase. What better way to kick off the New Year than by displaying and celebrating Valor’s top talent? With three nights of dance, theater, singing, and musical theater performances, the program delighted the entire community and brought attention to the hard work of the Conservatory students.
One moment, you feel like you’re at a rock concert. The next, you’re sympathizing with a recent widow during a monologue. Piano maestros blow you away as their fingers hit keys at a velocity you didn’t think possible. It feels like you’re viewing a conglomeration of talents at the Buell theater, and then you realize it’s actually that girl from your math class and the really quiet kid from English. You realize it’s your best friend’s daughter or your son’s teammate. You feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of artistic force driving Valor Arts, seemingly right beneath the surface. The best thing about the showcase was seeing students light up on stage, elated to be sharing what they are most passionate about. Pop songs, opera, original pieces alike. Each singer captivated the audience. Every monologue had the audience on the edge of their seats, or falling out of them because they were laughing so hard. Dancers floated across the stage, and drummers wowed the crowd with every note and crash.
The showcase provided the perfect outlet for students to display and get recognition for their talents. They have worked so hard, and it seems that it’s paying off in the bright future of the Conservatory program. If you missed this round of shows, you can catch the next showcases on May 4th, 5th and 6th.
