Track and Field makes strong showing at Thunder Ridge Invitational

The Eagles attended the Thunder Ridge Invitational at Echo Park Stadium last Saturday to compete in the 18-team meet made up of mostly 5A programs.  The weather was beautiful and made for great conditions for athletes to compete.  The girls had a strong showing, finishing fourth despite missing several athletes.  The boys finished tenth with a very limited group as well.  

The girl’s team was led by meet champions Bianca Lopez and the 4x400m relay team of Lizzie Waters, Keely Jones, Cheyenne Smith and Bianca Lopez.  Junior Bianca Lopez won the 400m in a time of 1:01.26.  The relay team won in convincing fashion to finish the meet in a time of 4:09.37.  Sophomore Isabel Bowen had a breakout day, jumping 5’2” and placing second overall in the high jump. Sophomore Keely Jones had another good race in the 800m this week to finish third with a time of 2:23.21. Freshman Sadie McMullen had a big day with a PR race in the 100m, and finished fourth in the long jump with a season best jump of 16’3.5”.  Junior Avery Vieregger took fifth place in the pole vault with a jump of 9’6” and teammate Lizzie Waters had a personal best at the same height to take sixth in the event. Senior Hannah Peters had a good day in the long jump with a sixth place finish and a jump of 16’0”.  

The boys team was led by junior Titan Birkholz in the long and triple jump.  Titan won the long jump with a big performance and a lifetime best of 21’7.75”.  He was also third in the triple jump. Senior Will Wixson had a personal best in the 1600 with a time of 4:44.01, and is eyeing the school record with many meets coming his way.

This week the Eagles will participate in the Broomfield Shootout on Friday at Broomfield high school.
