Track and Field has great showing at Holy Wars meet

This week the Eagles hosted the Holy War at the Valor Stadium with seven private, faith based schools. It was a great environment for competition and Christian fellowship. Pastor Jim Kirchner led a devotional for all teams, and it was an awesome scene to see all the athletes in unity before the competition began.

The girl’s team had many quality performances.  Anna Hall continued to lead the team with victories in the 100m hurdles, 300m hurdles and the high jump. Her time in the 100m hurdles was a personal best, school record and leads 4A. Avery Vieregger won the pole vault with a personal best jump and school record of 11’0”.  Sadie McMullen won the long jump with teammate Izzi Mroz finishing second. Izzi added another second place finish in the triple jump. Destiny Grimes had a very solid day, finishing second in the 100m hurdles and third in the 300m hurdles. Her 100m hurdles time was a personal best! Lizzie Waters finished fourth and fifth in the 300m hurdles and the 100m hurdles respectively. Keely Jones continued to be solid in two events and finished second in the 1600m. The 4x100m relay team of McMullen, Waters, Grimes and Tesone ran a season best time of 49.95 and moved into #2 in 4A.

Chase McLean, who had a big personal best and school record in the pole vault, led the boys. His jump of 15’0” leads the 4A rankings. He also placed fourth in the 110m high hurdles. Will Wixson finished second in the 1600m with a time of 4:48.88. Titan Birkholz placed second in the long jump in his only attempt before injury took him out of the competition. Buddy Nelson had a nice personal best in the 400m to finish fourth overall. The Rose brothers, Preston and Peyton, finished fourth and fifth in the shot put.

This week the squad competes at Jeffco Stadium in the Jeffco Elite Qualifier on Wednesday and Thursday.
