Top ranked Lady Eagles defeat D’Evelyn and Evergreen

Valor Girls Soccer (ranked first in Colorado and 36th nationally) won two critical 4A JeffCo League matches last week with wins over #5 D’Evelyn and #6 Evergreen to stay 5-0 in league play and first overall in the RPI race for tournament seeding. With five matches remaining in the final two weeks of the regular season, it’s going to be a sprint to the playoffs, so get out and support your Lady Eagles!

In Tuesday’s thriller of a match vs. D’Evelyn, the Eagles diverse ability to attack shone through, as left back Paige Kula got two assists from serves in the final nine minutes, one to forward Tess Boade and the other one to center back Caroline Noonan, to come from behind in dramatic fashion and claim the 2-1 victory. Princeton commit, Noonan, was faced with the prospect of shutting down one of the league’s top goal scorers in Laryssa Hamblen, one in which she was very effective. In a back and forth chess match of a game between two evenly matched teams, the Eagles would need not only a diverse attack, but also a tough defense, sharp set plays, and a lot of heart to take down the visiting Jaguars. The Eagles 12th man fan base were also instrumental in helping inspire the team to victory!

On Friday, in front of another large crowd of Eagle fans, the Lady Eagles would get the job done earlier, winning the game with the visiting Cougars of Evergreen by a score of 4-1. Statistically, however, these two juggernaut teams were dead even in nearly every category except for the final score, thanks to a set piece goal and two assists from senior Camryn Dyke, two brilliant goals by senior Bri Johnson, and a final tally by senior Tess Boade. Credit the final assist to Sophomore Cori Dyke, who just made it back into the line-up from a knee injury that had sidelined her for 2 weeks. Some of the unsung heroes of the game, however, were junior midfielders Laura Kladde and Aeva Graber, who had their hands full all night defending University of Virginia commit, Sophia Weiner, one of the state’s best midfielders. Both Valor GK’s, Daws and Egan, were also instrumental in holding at bay this high-octane Lady Cougar attack. It made for an awesome night in Valor Stadium, as the team honored their ten seniors on Senior Night:
