Looking Ahead in Discovery
It is with great joy and excitement that I share Discovery’s plans for the 2020-21 school year. When thinking about the last several months and looking ahead to the coming year, I’m reminded of what the apostle Paul wrote in his letter to the church in Philippi.
Forgetting what is behind, and straining for what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal… Philippians 3:13
Discovery is pressing forward with exciting service opportunities for Valor students. We plan to offer more team experiences than ever before, but we will be judicious about the timing of these experiences to minimize risks to students and others. Applications are now open for six local fall break teams: four in Denver, one in Buena Vista and one in Rifle on the Western Slope. We will offer several national teams in addition to more local experiences in the spring, and summer ‘21 will bring international, national and local team offerings. The summer will feature a repeat of several of last year’s cancelled experiences as well as many new teams. Students who were on last year’s cancelled teams and who did not get to go due to Covid will have priority consideration in the application process, when possible.
The historic Church took seriously Christ’s command to love and serve others – especially the poor, sick and marginalized. They served during both good and difficult times. As a result, they influenced individuals and entire nations by showing the light and sacrificial love of Christ. It is our hope that Valor students will continue to do the same. The vision of Valor is to prepare tomorrow’s leaders to transform the world for Christ. More often than not, transformation happens at an accelerated rate during times of difficulty. We have seen that to be true in the past and are assured that it will happen for our students and those we serve this year as well.
We are excited as we look ahead to this year, and cannot wait for our students to Go, Serve & Transform for the glory of God.
