The life of Valor Faculty member, Marty Magehee, has taken him from tour buses, to recording studios, to record production, to teaching the next generation of artists. Marty began his music career with the band Truth, and later 4HIM. “I was on a tour bus the day after I graduated college with Truth. We traveled 345 days a year,” he says. With 4HIM, Marty has traveled for over 25 years, amassing an incredible 5,000 concerts…and counting!
This week, Valor is celebrating the opening of our brand new, professionally equipped music studio. This will be a place where Marty and other music professionals will challenge students to learn the intricacies of the music business. “Our goal of this studio is to not only teach the mechanics of audio mixing and production, but let the students flex their creative muscles,” he says. Students will partner with other Valor songwriters, vocalists, and musicians helping create demos. Marty has a list of talented musicians – Joe King of the Fray, Steven Curtis Chapman and Rascal Flatts to name a few- invited to record in the studio. Students will be assisting during the entire recording process, a definite hands on learning experience.
The recording suite is located in The Valor Arts Center. It features state-of-the-art microphones, sound boards, audio tracking and sound proofing. Sophomores through seniors may select Studio Recording as part of their regular class load.
