Lady Eagles ranked 27th nationally heading into final week of regular season

Valor Girls Soccer (10-1) had an amazing week of soccer last week, entering the week ranked 27th nationally by the Top Drawer SIMA Fab 50 national rankings.

The Lady Eagles started the week with a 4-0 road win over the Golden Demons that saw goals by Cam Dyke, Cori Dyke, Bri Johnson and Aeva Graber. The Dyke sisters also added in an assist each. Credit the entire team with a shutout against a very good Golden team to preserve the victory. The back line play of Caroline Noonan, McKenna Gilbreth, Grace Collins, and Paige Kula was a major factor in not only stopping the Demons, but also served to launch a flurry of counter attacks. Coach Shultz also praised the blue collar mentality of the team, saying it was probably the most fierce aerial play he has ever seen from a Eagle soccer team. With the win, the Eagles moved into a 2-way tie with Wheat Ridge for the 4A Jeffco League title. The deciding match will be played at Lakewood Memorial tonight, May 2, at 7:00 pm vs. the Wheat Ridge Farmers.

The next night, with sore legs and little rest, the Eagles had to get right back at it, on the road vs. Grandview, who has won back-to-back 5A titles and who was ranked seventh nationally coming into the 2017 campaign. With great pace and depth at all positions, Grandview looked the part and put the Eagles on the defensive ropes for the first 20 minutes. The Eagles stayed the course, sorted out their marks, and came right back at Grandview, creating several good scoring chances of their own. Grandview scored the lone goal of the match midway through the first half, and after a back and forth second half, the Wolves walked away deservedly with the home win, but it truly was a brilliant and hard-nosed match by both squads.

The Eagles play for the 4A Jeffco League title tonight at 7:00 pm vs. Wheat Ridge, and then come home for the last two games of the regular season on Thursday at 5:00 pm vs. Rampart (11-3) and vs. TCA (12-0) on Friday at 7:00 pm, both in Valor Stadium. Go Lady Eagles!
