The Valor Lady Eagles Soccer Team has advanced to the 4A State Quarterfinals (Elite 8) this Wednesday at 7:oo pm at Valor Stadium vs. #8 Mullen, thanks to first & second round wins last week over #32 Conifer and #17 Pueblo Centennial.
The Eagles faced the Conifer Lobos last Wednesday at home in cold, miserable, rainy and windy conditions, but came away with the 7-0 victory. “I can’t believe the student fans stayed in those conditions,” said Coach Shultz, “but they did, and they were impressive.” GK Alex Daws recorded the shutout, and goals were scored by Camryn Dyke, Bri Johnson, Cori Dyke, Haley Harnisch, Caroline Noonan, and Tess Boade (2), with five of those tallies coming in the first half. Recording assists were Camryn Dyke (2), Kylie Smith, Meg Boade, Aeva Graber, McKenna Gilbreth, Bri Johnson, and Caroline Noonan. All 19 of the healthy players contributed significant minutes to the match, once again showing the depth of this Eagles squad.
On Saturday, in the Round of 16, the Eagles found themselves down 2-1 at halftime to a tough and prepared Pueblo Centennial side, a situation that the Eagles have not really faced this year. Pueblo’s CMF Siegel had scored twice on two amazing shots to take the wind out of Valor’s sails, but the Lady Eagles rebounded in the second half, scoring four unanswered goals and moving on to the State Quarterfinals after a 5-2 win. Senior Mackenzie Waters and freshman Haley Harnisch scored twice each, and Camryn Dyke blasted home a free kick to tally the Eagles’ goals. Harnisch also got an assist, along with fellow freshman Meg Boade, who had two assists, and senior defender Grace Collins also assisted on the Eagle’s five goals.
