Marketing & Communications Coordinator


The Marketing and Communications Coordinator compiles and publishes communications that attract, serve and retain Valor’s target audiences.

You will be gathering, organizing, creating, posting and delivering content to keep the Valor community informed and engaged. Through the website, email messages and social media, you get to show your knack writing short quips as well as stories and articles. To do this well, you will attract attention and build brand awareness with photos and graphics produced in collaboration with the Graphic Designer.

The team will count on you to coordinate diverse tasks and personalities in a deadline-driven workflow. When barriers arise, you will find ways to keep moving forward because you enjoy discovering tools and systems for working smarter and better.

Produce Timely and Effective Marketing and Communications
• Gather, generate, edit and publish weekly email communications using established templates, font styles and graphic design assets
• Track email engagement rates to gain actionable insights and improve performance over time
• Ensure email list accuracy and appropriate personalization of messages
• Collaborate with team members to support smooth project workflows and systems that meet marketing goals, deliverables, schedules,
deadlines, vendor production and delivery
• Uphold Valor brand standards in all communications
• Ensure appropriate archives of creative assets and completed projects

Create and Maintain Website Content and Online School Store Content
• Work with the Marketing and Communications team to implement online content strategy based on market research, editorial and event
calendars, circulation schedules and school store promotions
• Gather, generate, edit and publish website content using established page templates, font styles and graphic design assets
• Apply basic knowledge of SEO techniques to ensure effective online search results
• Apply basic knowledge of Google Analytics to monitor traffic and content-related insights
• Conduct periodic review of web content and update as needed to keep it accurate and relevant

Foster Engaging Social Media Connections
• Gather, generate, edit and publish content, including copy, graphics, photos, videos or HTML to develop connections with students, parents and alumni
• Schedule and monitor posts primarily on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn using Valor’s social media management platform to ensure relevancy and consistency across main and department-specific channels; handle Instagram similarly
• Coordinate the capture of photos and informal videos to enhance online posts
• Coordinate actions with team members in other departments to follow best practices, share content and facilitate school-wide wins
• Monitor comments and conversations and help address any questions or complaints in a timely manner to maintain a positive online reputation for Valor
• Track metrics on audiences, likes, comments, views, shares, retweets, etc. and regularly report dashboard insights to improve engagement and grow Valor’s social media communities

• Stay up-to-date on marketing and design trends and tools, and develop proficiency to sustain individual and team excellence

Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or a relevant field
• 1–3 years of experience in marketing or a relevant field, with significant involvement in website content and social media, which
may include writing in the brand’s voice, creating campaigns and posting strategies, growing the platforms, engaging in online
conversations and tracking analytics

Skills and Software
• Strong writing skills demonstrated in social media and web copy
• Strong relational skills as a team member and collaborator
• Quick, self-motivated ability to learn new software and systems
• Proficiency with website content management and styling in systems such as WordPress
• Proficiency with broadcast email systems such as Emma or MailChimp
• Proficiency with social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter and YouTube; preferably also with social
media management tools such as Buffer or HootSuite
• Proficiency with Mac computers, Microsoft Office, Google Suite (Mail, Docs, Drive, Calendar)
• Familiarity with these tools is a plus: Adobe Creative Cloud, Basecamp 3, Shopify, customer database systems and advertising via
Facebook, Instagram or Google AdWords

Courses and Certifications
One or more of the following within the past 3 years:
• Google: AdWords Certification in Fundamentals or Digital Garage Certificate of Online Proficiency
• HubSpot: Email Marketing Certification or Inbound Certification
• StoryBrand: Marketing Workshop or Online Video Course
• Any comparable online courses or professional seminars in social media management, advertising or retargeting; website or SEO
fundamentals or best practices; or other marketing topics
