Congratulations to Valor Girls Tennis players Tiffany Parobek (#2 singles), and Sophia Hazelton/Marguerite Keegan (#3 doubles) on qualifying for the state tournament in Pueblo this coming week!
The Valor girls tennis team headed to regionals last week at Kent Denver and came home with a solid 3rd place finish. After all the matches finally concluded on Thursday afternoon, the Eagles had 3 participants qualify for the state tournament this week in Pueblo. Tiffany Parobek lost in the finals but secured a 2nd place finish and will face Steamboat Springs in the first round on Thursday morning. This is Tiffany’s 3rd consecutive trip to Pueblo and her first as a singles player. The #3 doubles team of Sophia Hazelton/Marguerite Keegan also finished 2nd after losing to a tough Kent Denver team. They will match up against Jeffco rival D’Evelyn in the first round on Thursday. This will be the first trip for both Sophia and Marguerite.
The rest of the girls wrapped up a strong season. Darby Warburton placed 3rd at #1 singles while playing her best match of the year in defeating Littleton for 3rd place. Mikayla McDuff wrapped up 4 years of playing varsity tennis for the Eagles with a strong 3rd place finish at #3 singles. Mikayla made 3 trips to the state tournament. She finished 1st in her previous 3 regionals and paired with her sister Meghan last year to finish 2nd at #2 doubles last year.
The #2 doubles team of Amanda Dungan and Julianne Swayze lost a 3rd set tiebreaker to take 4th place. Both seniors showed tremendous heart in fighting back from a set down to take it to a third set. The #4 doubles team of Mary Hertel/Sam Chavez Salinas also fought back from a set down to capture a thrilling 3 set win for third place.
