The Valor girls tennis team finished up their season this past week with their best showing ever at the state tournament in Pueblo! When all was said and done, the girls placed third in the state and had two second place finishes and two fourth place finishes in their individual lines. And on top of the strong finish, the girls once again showed that they play the game for Him as the brought home the State Sportsmanship Trophy as well. What a great award for a first rate group of young Christian women.
On an individual note, the team had two lines finish second in the state this year. Isabella Pacheco played a great match in the finals against Cheyenne Mountain and came up a bit short in a hard fought 3-set loss. As a freshman, Isabella had a fantastic year at the #3 singles spot and becomes the second Valor player in nine years to finish second in state. At #1 doubles Tiffany Parobek and Lucie Hosse wrapped up a great year with a second place finish at #1 doubles. They become the third Valor team to take second at state and finished the year with only two losses, both at the hands of a very strong Cheyenne Mountain team. Tiffany becomes one of three Valor players to qualify for the state tournament in all four years and Lucie earns a second place finish in her first trip to Pueblo.
At #2 singles, Darby Warburton played a great tournament in her second trip to state and finished fourth. In the third place match, she played some great tennis but came up short to a strong Niwot girl. As a junior, Darby lead the team as a co-captain and had her best year at Valor. At #4 doubles, Mary Hertel and Avery Warburton had a great match against Mullen but came up a bit short in a 4-6,6-7 loss. For their first trip to the tournament, the girls played so well. They were in every match they played this year, and as a freshman and a sophomore, they will continue to improve and the coaches have no doubt, return to Pueblo again.
Congratulations on an incredible season!
