Girls Tennis Finishes Sixth At State

The girls tennis team wrapped up their season this past Friday and Saturday with the state tournament at Gates Tennis Center.  The girls sent 5 of their 7 lines to the state tournament, and when play concluded on Saturday afternoon, they came away with a 6th place finish in their first year at 5A.  What an incredible few days they had!

At #1 singles, Emily Untermeyer had a tough draw and played a great match  before falling 4-6,4-6 to Cherry Creek. At #2 singles, Stephanie Untermeyer lost in the first round to Chatfield, but was able to get back in via playbacks and got redemption by beating Cherry Creek and then won a great 3-set match against Arapahoe before falling to Fort Collins in the 3rd place match. But Stephanie finished 4th as a freshman! What a great year. At #3 singles, Isabella Pacheco lost in the first round to Cherry Creek, but also had playback opportunities!  She won in straight sets against Regis and then played a great match to beat Denver East.  She lost in the 3rd place match to Chatfield,  but a 4thplace finish was a great way to wrap up her junior year.

At #2 doubles, Marguerite Keegan/Courtney Damian Campbell  beat Denver East in the first round and won a great 3-set match against Grandview to advance to the semi-finals.  They fell in straight sets to Cherry Creek and then lost a tough 3-set match to Fort Collins, but had a tremendous year at #2 doubles. The #3 team of Mary Hertel/Abby Parobek started their tournament with a straight set win over Boulder. They then advanced to the semi-finals with an awesome win over Arapahoe in 3 sets. They fell in the semi-finals to Chatfield and then lost a tough match to Fossil Ridge in their playback.  But 8 wins at state between the 5 lines was fantastic!  What a great year and more importantly a year in which the team grew in their faith and fought hard to the very end!
