Girls take second, boys take fourth at Jeffco League Meet

The Valor XC team had a very successful League Meet this past week and represented Valor well.

The Valor Girls had their highest League finish ever, finishing in second place overall. The Jeffco League has historically had several team in the Top 10 in the state each year, so this was a great accomplishment for the girls! Of note, Valor had three girls finish in the Top 10 individually in the meet: JR-Keely Jones, FR-Taylor Whitfield and FR-Riley Irwin. Each of those girls will be named First Team All-League. Kindyll Wetta and Emma Sees finished out the scoring for the Varsity Girls.

The Valor Boys had a very nice League Meet, finishing 4th overall. This meet was very close between the top four teams, and the boys were just a few points away from finishing in second place. Both Josh Thompson and Matt Harrison finished in the top 16 and will both receive All-League accolades. Jack Ray and Mike McKee finished out the scoring for the boys.

Special recognition goes out to Valor sophomore, Cole Sprout, who was the overall Boys League Champion. It was a very nice day for Cole and for the rest of the Varsity runners!

The JV Girls had an incredible day, finishing second place overall and just a very few points away from being the League Champion. They were led on the day by Jenae Gibbs, who had a significant breakout race. Alli Randall, Sophie Thomas, Nicole MacDonald and Rosie McVaney finished out the scoring for the JV Girls.

The JV Boys finished seventh on the day and had strong races from several of their runners. The top five scorers for the Boys team were River Schreckengost, Brennan Martin, Jack Billman, Jake Van Vechten and Brandon Seymour.

The League Meet was the final meet of the year for many of Valor’s XC runners. Way to go everyone on a successful season!

The Varsity team now heads to the Regional Meet that takes place this Thursday afternoon. The top four teams from each Region will head to the State XC Meet, so be on the lookout for results!
