Girls Soccer Season Comes To An End With Heartbreaking OT Loss

Valor Girls Soccer made it to the 5A playoffs as the 23 seed, but failed to advance past Fossil Ridge in a thriller of a game on the road that went to “Sudden Death” Overtime.

#10 seed Fossil Ridge came out firing on all cylinders at home, disrupting nearly every Eagle attack with a high press defense, but the Eagles weathered the storm and finally began to get into a normal passing rhythm and create chances, but none that seriously threatened the opposing goal.

After a scoreless first half, the Eagles continued to build on their possession and finally created a number of quality scoring opportunities from close range that could have scored. That attack, coupled with a stout defensive effort from the back line and senior GK Kenzie Egan, and the Eagles were looking like they were serious challengers for the win. Ultimately though, Fossil Ridge stood strong in front of the home crowd and got the game to OT without conceding a goal.

In “Sudden Death” Overtime, both teams came out swinging, but it was Fossil Ridge who would score the heart breaker on a single break-a-way where everything went wrong for the Eagles to end their first season at the 5A level.

A huge thank you to seniors Bayli Waters, Cori Dyke, Kenzie Egan, McKenna Gilbreth, Liz Nolan, and Blythe Armstrong, who will all be missed dearly for their four years of strong performances on the field as well as their high character off the field. Over their four years, these seniors led their teams to two State Championship matches and a State Semifinal, but also led their teams spiritually in amazing ways. Thanks you ladies for representing our school so well for so long!
