Girls Soccer Gets Big Win Over Standley Lake

Your Lady Eagles soccer team moved up to a 4th place ranking in 4A Colorado Soccer after a 2-0 shut-out win on the road over #2 Standley Lake last Thursday night.

After a scoreless first half by both teams, it was the Eagles’ senior goalkeeper and forward Alex Daws, who scored both of her goals in the second half for the win. The first goal was off of a set play from near midfield that caught the Gators GK off her line and scored just below the crossbar. The second goal was a gritty blocked clearance by Daws that rebounded into the Standley Lake goal.

Despite the 2 great goals by Daws, the majority of the game was actually marked by hard fought team defending between the boxes by both sides. The Eagles were led in goal by MacKenzie Egan who made several great saves in the first half and an incredible finger tip save over the bar late in the second half to preserve the win. With starting center back Makenna Gilbreth’s ankle injury preventing her from playing, the rest of the Eagle defenders (Nicole Wright, Blythe Armstrong, Bayli Waters, Emma Sees, and Katherine Noonan) stepped up and executed a gritty performance all night long, with Armstrong making a goal-saving tackle early in the game to help get the Eagles through a shaky start.

When it’s all said and done, the Eagles are still undefeated this season, moving to 4 wins, 0 losses, and 3 ties on the season. This week begins the gauntlet for the Eagles as they take on the D’evelyn Jaguars (2017 Defending State Champions) and the Evergreen Cougars (2017 State Runners-Up), both on the road.
