The Valor Lady Eagles soccer team returned from three weeks off without a game and picked things up right where they left off, with a 5-1 win over Green Mountain. The Rams, a high-quality opponent, came into the match with a 3-1 record and a stout defense, but it was the offensive fire power of the Eagles that won the battle at Lakewood Memorial on Thursday night.
Senior midfielder Kylie Smith opened the scoring with a great volley from 30 yards out, and in the end, five different Lady Eagles had scored goals in the match: Kylie Smith, Mackenzie Waters, Bri Johnson, Kaitlynn Derani, and Tess Boade. Boade also had an assist in the game, to move her into the top five in the Jeffco League in points scored. Senior midfielder Cam Dyke also notched yet another assist, her fifth in five games, and she motored tirelessly around the park all night to control the possession game and put her teammates onto goal at least 20 times. Junior Laura Kladde anchored the midfield, and really did the dirty work of winning balls and redistributing the ball with laser-like passing around the pitch all night. GK Alex Daws and the back line of McKenna Gilbreth, Aeva Graber, Ellary Bomgaars, and Paige Kula were rock solid all night, and senior Grace Collins, in her first match back from a serious knee injury, held her own as she worked back into the Valor defense for her first minutes of the 2017 season. GK Sydney Jones, midfielders Blythe Armstrong and Kaleigh Kreimeyer, and forward Kaitlynn Derani all saw their first ever minutes of varsity action and did very well.
Next up for the Eagles is another fearsome league opponent, Littleton, on Tuesday at home at 5:00 pm! Come out and support!
