Girls Lacrosse Looks To Grow On Last Year’s Campaign

Lacrosse season is finally here, and the 2018 Valor Girl’s Lacrosse program is beyond excited to get under way. The program saw incredible growth last season, and continues to grow in numbers and talent. 39 players began tryouts yesterday, which will conclude tomorrow. This is the first year in program history that Valor will host a JV girl’s lacrosse team.

The program has a busy weekend ahead as well. They will begin their retreat Friday night, staying local. On Saturday, Valor will host seven other teams in a pre-season play day. Those teams include Kent, Arapahoe, Mullen, Ralston Valley, Heritage, Chatfield and ThunderRidge. What a privilege to bring these teams onto our beautiful campus! This will be an incredible opportunity for players to get their feet under them before games officially start next week, and for the coaching staff to implement new systems.

After games are completed, both JV and Varsity will head up to Mt. Evans to continue their retreat. We are so fortunate to be able to spend this time together in a secluded cabin, bonding and creating memories these girls will never forget. It is so critical to the team building a sturdy foundation as we embark on the crazy journey of our season. It is going to be a jam-packed weekend, but it will no doubt be full of growth in lacrosse, in their relationship with each other and in the word of God.

This season, the Girl’s Lacrosse program returns six seniors to lead the program. Maddie Altman, Amanda Eggebrecht, Danni Malinski, Isabel Nicolai, Ava Niemi and Addi Welker will strive for their best performance in their final season. The team will also be returning 2017 1st Team All-Conference players Addy Tysdal and Lexie Lee to contribute to the team’s success. The program has an exciting number of sophomores and freshmen as well that have the potential to make a big impact immediately on the program.

The Varsity team opens their 2018 campaign on Thursday, March 8, at Palmer Ridge at 3:30 pm, with JV following at 5pm. Valor Girl’s Lacrosse will be on the road the first five games of the season before hosting their season home opener against Rock Canyon on Thursday, April 5. The program will look to continue to rise in the ranks in both Continental League and State polls this season.
