Girls golf places third in Regionals, qualifies all four golfers for State Tournament

Valor’s girls golf team qualified four individuals for the 4A State High School Championship to be held at Colorado National Golf Course in Erie on May 22 and May 23. Valor competed in the 4A Region 2 Tournament on May 9 at Eisenhower Golf Club, Silver Course, in Colorado Springs. Valor’s team score of 292 placed third, only three shots behind Region Champion Palmer Ridge at 289 and runner-up Air Academy at 291. The top two teams in each of the four regions qualify for the State Tournament. However, if a team qualifies at least three players on an individual basis, that team can also compete as a team at the State Tournament. Thus, Valor will be competing as a team at the State Tournament, because all four players qualified individually.

Freshman Sam Schoenborn fired an 88 to place in a tie for fourth. Junior Izzy Marchino shot a 97 for seventh place. Sophomore Morgan Hamler carded a 107 for 12th, and Junior Alex Benschneider finished with a 114 for 15th.  These four Valor golfers will be working hard this week to prepare for the 4A State Championship.

Caroline Burger, Tess Clark and Kelsey Spelts saw action at the Gold Crown Foundation tournament held at Lake Arbor Golf Course on Tuesday, May 9.  Caroline fired a 47 to place first in the 22 player field. Kelsey carded a nine-hole score of 52 to tie for third.  Tess finished with a 60 for 11th.
