Girls golf secures first tournament win at 4A Jeffco League Tourney

The girls golf team secured their first tournament win of the season at the 4A Jeffco League Tourney at Foothills GC on Monday, April 10! The tournament was shortened to a 9-hole event due to darkness. Valor’s team score of 189 was four shots ahead of Golden and eight shots ahead of Evergreen. Izzy Marchino led the team with a score of 44 to place third, and was supported by Sam Schoenborn (46-fifth), Alex Benschneider (47-tied sixth),  Morgan Hamler (52-tie 15th) and Caroline Burger (55-tie 20th). The next League event will be at Lake Arbor GC on Tuesday, April 18.

Kelsey Spelts and Tess Clark saw action at the Gold Crown Foundation tournament held on the Executive course at Foothills GC on Tuesday, April 11. Kelsey fired a nine hole score of 44 to place in a tie for third out of 28 players. Tess shot 38 to tie for 10th. Kelsey and Tess will see action again this week at The Links GC on Tuesday, April 18.

On Friday, the Varsity team traveled to Eisenhower GC in Colorado Springs to compete in the Lady Kadet Invitational with 14 other teams. The setting and weather were beautiful, and the team gained valuable experience playing on the course they will see at Regionals on May 9. Valor’s team score of 294 was good for sixth place. Arapahoe won the tourney with a team score of 269. Sam Schoenborn turned in a fine score of 90 to finish in seventh place and earn a medal. Supporting Sam were Morgan Hamler (101), Izzy Marcino (103) and Alex Benschneider (111).
