Eagles take first at Cyclone Invitational, head into final phase of season

Last week was another busy week for the girls tennis team as they head into the final three weeks of their season.

On Tuesday, Standley Lake came to town and the girls played really well in a 7-0 win against the Gators. Emily Untermeyer had a great 3-set win and Nicole Gutesha stepped in at #2 singles and got the team a nice win there as well. Isabella Pacheco rounded out the singles sweep with a straight set win to set the tone for the 7-0 victory. The win helped the girls to a 4-0 start in conference play.

Wednesday, the girls traveled to Colorado Springs to face eight-time defending state champ Cheyenne Mountain.  The girls played extremely well but suffered their first loss of the season 6-1. Emily again produced a tough 3-set win at #1 singles and Mary Hertel and Avery Warburton played their best match of the year in a tough 6-4, 5-7, 4-6 loss at #4 doubles.

On Thursday, the girls headed South again for the Cyclone Invitational in Pueblo. It was also retreat weekend. After plenty of tennis and great fellowship, the team headed home on Saturday night with a first place finish! Isabella Pacheco took first place at #3 singles and the doubles teams of Tiffany Parobek/Lucie Hosse and Sam Chavez/Marguerite Keegan followed suit with first place finishes at #1 and #3 doubles respectively.  Emily Untermeyer and Darby Warburton had strong showings and came away with second place finishes at #1 and #2 singles. The doubles teams of Abby Willis/Elizabeth Jones and Mary/Avery had third place finishes to round out the team win!

This week the conference season will wrap up with matches against Develyn,  Golden and Littleton. Monday we will honor our seniors. Please come out and join us in our BBQ to honor Tiffany Parobek, Nicole Gutesha, Elizabeth Jones and Elaina Hollister!
