The Eagles pushed their league winning streak to 4 games in a row, following an important 70-63 win at Arvada West. The Wildcats were number 10 in the CHSAA RPI standings, and the win pushed the Eagles into a position that they are playing the final week of the regular season in pursuit of a home playofff game.
Valor approached the game with the mindset that their chief advantage was to exploit the Wildcats lack of interior size. Accordingly, the team’s perimeter players took only 8 three pointers and consistently pounded the ball in the paint to Roger Rosengarten (career high 30 points) and Cole Bott (23 points). Timely free throw shooting and an outstanding fourth quarter pressing defense led the team to victory. All seven of the players that played in the game made specific and impactful contributions in the victory. Additionally, our reserve players (affectionately known as the “Bench Mob”), continued to exemplify We before Me by pouring their hearts out in support of their teammates throughout the contest.
The Eagles are excited to play three games in four days to start the upcoming week. Please come out and join the team on Monday and Wednesday as we host Dakota Ridge and Chatfield. Wednesday’s game vs Chatfield is Senior Night and we will be celebrating everything that Jack Foley has done for this program. The Eagles are excited to pursue a home playoff game and hope to “Win the Week”.
The JV team also had a canceled game on Wednesday and battled Arvada West on the road as well, unfortunately losing 56-50. The Eagles trailed early and gained the lead back with some intense defense and pushing the tempo but lost the the lead late in the final minute and half. The game was one of runs by both teams, and it got gritty and went down to the wire. The Eagles had a couple of different offensive opportunities late to tie or take the lead, but were unable to execute. The team was led by Sam Billman with 16 points, while Tyler Egan and Nate Sock also added to the scoring with 8 points apiece.
The Valor L3 Team completed this past week with a 1-0 record due to one of the games being postponed because of inclement weather. The one game played was played on Friday that ended in a decisive win over Arvada West HS 63-35.
Team scoring leader Esten Dixon led the team again in scoring with 15 points, followed by 10 points from Jackson Rikli, who was returning to the lineup following injury. Liam Rubingh also contributed 9 points in the victory. Solid rebounding came from post players Colton Rose, Cayden Hawkins, and Colton Allen.
The game’s defensive output was a collaborated team effort with several players having steals and defensive deflections, led by Kellan Boylan, Mitch Bigelow, and Jayden Jordan. Other Eagles’ Gritty defensive standout performances came from Max McDonald, Jude Kim, and Luke Meyer.
With only 3 games remaining on the 2018-2019 schedule the Level-3 team is looking forward to Finishing Strong.
