This week the Eagles competed at the Jeffco Elite Qualifier and the Pueblo Twilight. Several athletes had good performances in the final invitational meet of the season.
The girls were once again led by sophomore Anna Hall who won the high jump, 300m hurdles and the 400m. She also placed second in the 100m hurdles and had a season best jump of 5’8” in the high jump. Hannah Tesone had a breakthrough day running 12.92 in the 100m and 27.03 in the 200m, both lifetime PR’s. Sadie McMullen racked up another win in the long jump. Joy Gerow had a nice day in the discus with a second place finish and a PR of 109’6”. Avery Vierreger and Haidyn Ogg, the pole vault crew, continued to excel with a second and third place finish. The girls 4×200 relay won big with a huge season best. The team of Sadie McMullen, Lizzie Waters, Destiny Grimes and Hannah Tesone ran 1:45.64 and moved into the top five in the state rankings. The distance squad also ran well in Pueblo with season PR’s for Keely Jones, Macy Peterson and Abby Zuschlag.
The boys continue to work to get healthy for the league and state meets. Newcomers Karsten Michael and Luke McCaffrey had an impact on the meet. Karsten placed second in the long jump with a leap of 20’6.5”. Luke McCaffrey ran well in several events but had his best performance in the 400m, running 52.21 and placing third overall. Multi-sport athlete Zach Reid had good day as well jumping 20’1.5” and a wind legal best time in the 100m of 11.44. Will Wixson came very close to breaking the ten minute mark in the 3200m with a time of 10:01.00.
This week the squad is excited to compete in the Jeffco League Championships.
