What are class service dates?

Discovery Class Service dates are designated service dates, in the local community, for the entire grade level to serve.

Can parents volunteer as chaperones?

Where can I see my cumulative and approved service hours?

Valor students cumulative and approved service hours can be accessed and viewed by selecting The Discovery Tab from the Valor website/Service Link/View/Log Service Hours or Click Here.

What are the reasons for pending hours?

  • More information is needed on your online submission.
  • Service hours were not performed with a pre-approved organization.
  • Missing signature from ministry partner or coordinator.

Submit an email to discovery@valorchristian.com for pending hours related questions. Generally, an email will be sent or an administrative note will be added to the online entry to indicate reason for pending status.

What are pending hours on my Service Hour online report?

Pending hours indicate your submitted hours are received and pending due to missing information. An email will be sent to your “Go Valor” email account to communicate if additional information is required.

How do I log my hours online?

Your cumulative and approved service hours can be accessed and viewed by selecting the Discovery Tab from the Valor website/Service Link/View Log Service Hours or Click Here.

Service Hour Requirements

What is the Valor service hour requirement?

Each year, Valor students are required to serve a minimum of 25 approved service hours with a cumulative total of 100 service hours at the end of their senior year, based upon four years of enrollment at Valor. During the summer months, which precede the start of the academic year, Valor students including freshmen and transfer students, may work towards fulfilling their service hours. Approved service hours are cumulative from year to year.

Are transfer student’s service hour requirements pro-rated?

The service hour requirement is pro-rated based upon Valor enrollment date.

Service Hours – Discovery Experiences / Non Valor Mission Trips

How many hours do I receive for Discovery experiences?

Most national and international Discovery experiences will provide 30–50 service hours. However, the number of service hours are dependent upon the service project component of each experience and service hours can vary.

Do mission trips outside of Valor need to be pre-approved?

Yes, please submit an email to discovery@valorchristian.com to ensure the mission trip qualifies for Discovery service hours. Then log your hours online.

Do I log hours online and submit a form for Discovery experiences and class service days?

Discovery national, international experiences and class service dates do not require an online log. These hours will automatically be recorded in your service hour record.

Service Hours – Parent Volunteers

Do you recruit parent volunteers for your events?

We would love to share the opportunity to volunteer with our Discovery Service Hours, and you can email your interest to discovery@valorchristian.com and please indicate your name and event you are interested in.

Do you need parent volunteers in the Discovery Service Department?

Yes, we do have parent volunteers who join us weekly to assist with the daily needs of the Department. Please email discovery@valorchristian.com to express your interest, and include your name, availability and skills to share.

Service Hours – Pre-Approval For A Service Project

How do I request a pre-approval?

Although the list may not be inclusive of all approved organizations or events, students may choose to serve through other organizations or ministries. Prior to your service projects, students, faculty and staff will submit a pre-approval request, via email, to discovery@valorchristian.com. Please include your name, name of the organization or ministry and description of the service project to receive a pre-approval and express how this opportunity meets the requirements, set out herein, and on the Discovery service website. After completion of such service, students will log their Discovery service hours online.

Service Hours – Transcripts And Report Cards

What will show on my final Valor transcript upon graduation.

The final transcript will reflect the total number of Discovery Service Hours approved over the course of Valor enrollment.

What is the submission deadline for all service hours to ensure they are on my college transcript?

Service hours must be submitted by May 10th to be reflected on the final senior year transcripts.

Service Hours – Transfer Students

Can transfer students and incoming freshmen work on the Discovery Service Hour requirement the summer which precedes their enrollment to Valor?

Yes, students are encouraged to serve over the summer. The service hours can be counted towards the incoming year service hour record.

Service Hours – Volunteer Events

If I am compensated for a Valor event, or receive academic credit, or it is a requirement of a club, can I use this for service hours?

Service hours for dual credit or compensation are ineligible for service hour credit.

Do I need a pre-approval to help with Valor Events?

If the event is not listed on the Valor Event section of the Pre-Approved Partner’s list, then submit an email to Discovery for approval with the following information: Please include your name, name of the organization or ministry and description of the service project to receive a pre-approval and express how this opportunity meets the Service Hour guideline requirements defined on the Discovery Service website.

Can I earn service hours with Valor Events?

Please review the “Pre-approved Partners” list under the Valor Events section to view the pre-approved Valor Events. All others will require a pre-approval. Note, dual academic or service hour credit, or compensation will invalidate the Discovery service hours.

Can I earn service hours helping Valor Staff and Faculty?

Due to the broad spectrum of possibilities, these will need to be reviewed and approved, by Discovery, on a case-by-case basis.

What if my organization is not a pre-approved partner or event?
