About Discovery

Philosophy

Discovery exists to facilitate opportunities for transformation through service - whether close to home or across the world. Our desire is that students would develop and strengthen their faith as they engage in and with other world-views, belief systems, cultural practices and more. Our objective: well-executed intercultural experiences with the potential to significantly advance students’ spiritual, emotional, character and relational development while meeting desired educational or ministry goals. Ultimately, Discovery seeks to prepare tomorrow’s leaders to transform the world for Christ. Go! Serve! Transform!

Biblical Foundation

Our purpose and desired outcomes are Christ-centered. As followers of Jesus Christ, we are called to go to all people - our neighbors and those in the farthest reaches of the world (Matthew 28:18). We believe that when students are able to learn about people, cultures and world-views through a Christian lens, they are better able to live and engage the global community (Eph. 4:14-15, Proverbs 4:5-8).

As students engage with others, they learn to love and serve humbly as Christ did (John 3:16;  I John 3:16-18, 4:7-12, Isaiah 58:6-10). It is our hope that through loving service our students will be transformed (Luke 9:23-25, Galatians 2:20, 6:14, Romans 6:3-23, 8:1-17, 2 Corinthians 5:17), and others may be led to the truth (John 14:6).

Outreach Focus

While some experiences are outreach-oriented, the focus of others may be language learning, cultural immersion, leadership development or academic enhancement. In every case, whether local or abroad, our prayer is that students will develop and model Christ's servant leadership as a part of their broader experience.
