Ceramics Olympics

On a sunny Thursday, Mrs. Trista Clagget’s ceramics classes held an all-day event that celebrated the Art of Pottery. Students glazed their works using the fire pit outside, giving the finished products a unique look. “We built a fire in the fire pit outside by filling it with sawdust. We half buried our pieces in it. Then, we took a different kind of sawdust — of a horse stable bedding consistency — and covered the pieces,” explained Cassidy Hathcote.  “Then we added paper and lit it on fire.”  Throughout the day, students also engaged in Ceramics Olympics, which included activities such as using a pottery wheel blindfolded. Cassidy’s favorite part of the day was roasting marshmallows and hanging out with her fellow classmates.
