HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo., May 20, 2019 —Valor Christian announced Sunday that assistant athletic director Brian Bonn would be replacing Valor’s athletic director, Jamie Heiner, effective June 1, head of school Kurt Unruh confirmed.
“I’m very pleased to make this announcement today that Brian Bonn will take over athletic leadership at Valor Christian High School. Brian is an exemplar of our vision as a school to be a training ground for future leaders. Brian came to us in an entry level position, he learned, he grew, he took on greater levels of responsibility and performed exceptionally, and now he is ready to take the mantle of leadership and lead our athletic program. I’m very excited for Brian’s opportunities to advance in leadership, and even more excited for the impact he will have on our students, coaches, and community.“ said Kurt Unruh
Heiner announced in April that he would step down to take a pastoral role at Journey Church in Castle Pines, Colorado. Although he is stepping away, he still has two students that will be at Valor Christian and Heiner said he would still be around campus supporting all that the school has to offer.
“I am forever grateful for my time being a part of the Valor community. I have grown exponentially during my time here. I feel prepared for this new direction, and much is due to my time at Valor. There is a commitment to excellence in everything we do that stretches far beyond the material things of this world and into the hearts and lives of people through the love of Jesus Christ.”
“I am also blessed to see the school chose a wonderful man like Brian to lead this department at Valor. He will represent exceptionally well as he has a true heart for the students and people he serves. Brian is a faithful leader and friend and I am so excited to watch the athletic programs flourish under his guidance”, Heiner said.
The position change was announced to Valor’s parent community in an e-mail Sunday afternoon. Bonn joined Valor in 2012 and has served in multiple roles, including Assistant Athletic Director, Head Baseball Coach, and the Advisor to Valor Sports Network. He says, “I am excited for the opportunity to continue my commitment to excellence at Valor Christian High School as the Athletic Director. I look forward to leading our Athletic program in our mission to mentor young men and women and glorifying Jesus through sport.”
Bonn has big shoes to fill. Heiner has served incredibly well as the athletic director over the last four years and helping grow his department into an even stronger Christian athletic culture.
“It’s a tall task to take over for Jamie Heiner. I have learned so much from him during his time at Valor Christian. The relationships that he has built with CHSAA and within our own community should be admired. His ability to teach our coaches and athletes what Jesus looks like through sport and still remain highly successful is a mark of a great Christian leader. He has truly made an impact in the high school athletic world and I am thankful for his time, friendship and service during his tenure. I wish him the best of luck as he follows his calling of becoming a pastor.”
