Boys Swimming and Diving wins 4A League Championship, heads to State this weekend

The boys swimming and diving team competed well this past weekend at the Jeffco League Championships. The team placed first overall, winning the 4A League Championship.

The B Medley Relay of Matthew Siegler, Chris Chen, Brian Redington and Tyler Armstrong started things off with a bang and turned in very fast splits in their race. The A 200 medley relay placed second overall, consisting of Lenny Den, Caleb Kim, Matthew Wyatt and Kyle McCarty. In the 200 freestyle, Valor was scoring big early with Dylan Nasser finishing second in a new school record time, and Liam Dooley placing fifth with a season best time.

In the 200 I.M. Caleb Kim made a big splash with a second place performance and Dylan Jessen placed 11th, both men going best times. The 50 Freestyle saw seven of the Eagles earn best times – Kyle Birchfield, Tyler Armstrong, and Chris Chen had personal records, and Mitch Peotter and Kyle McCarty sizzled to 13th and fourth place finishes, while Matthew Wyatt fought to a silver finish just .02 seconds behind the gold.

The diving competition saw the Eagles soaring again, with Casey Fellows taking first and Matthew King placing fourth overall, supported by Brae VanNice finishing in eighth, Adam Valdes earning ninth, and Adam Ward diving extremely well in the Prelims.

Dylan Nasser, Lenny Den and Matthew Siegler kept the Eagles in the hunt with hot performances in the 100 Backstroke: Dylan with a second place just .02 behind the winner, Lenny right behind in third place, and Matthew carving over five seconds off his previous best time of the season.

The 100 Breaststroke saw the Eagles steaming with Brian Redington as he pressed to a new best time, dropping three seconds, while Alex Warren fought to a 14th place, and Dylan Jessen touched fourth and Caleb Kim drove home a second place overall.
