Boys Swim and Dive wins dual against Littleton, prepares for League and State

This past weekend marked the end of the regular season for the Boys Swimming and Diving team before competing in the League and State Championships. As this was the last regular meet of the season, we honored our awesome seniors on the team: Dylan Nasser and Liam Dooley, both of whom were founding team members four years ago.

The team outscored Littleton High School 109-69. Valor took home a victory in all events except for one. The 200 Medley Relay consisting of Dylan Nasser, Dylan Jessen, Alex Warren and Caleb Kim won the event in a nail-biter by .03 seconds. Liam Dooley, Lenny Den, and Matthew Wyatt went 1-2-3 in the A heat 200 Freestyle, and Kyle McCarty and Grant Pankratz went 1-2 in the B heat, with Grant recording a lifetime best time. Next up, Caleb Kim swam to first place in the 200 I.M. Mitch Peotter and Matthew Siegler sprinted to second and fifth in the A 50 Freestyle, while Tristan Nieves, Tyler Armstrong and Chris Chen came away with first, second and third place in the 50 Freestyle B heat, with Tristan and Tyler obtaining lifetime best times in the event.

Diving was a very strong event for Valor. Casey Fellows, Matthew King, and Brae VanNice finished first, second and fourth in the Varsity Diving event, and Adam Valdes and Aaron Ward garnered first and second in the JV Diving.

In the 100 Butterfly, Dylan Nasser placed first in the event and Brian Redington chopped over eight seconds off his previous week’s time to finish in third place. In the B heat of the 100 Freestyle, Alex Warren took home a first place, with Tristan Nieves and Tyler Armstrong right behind in second and third – all three swimmers posted a lifetime best time.

In the A heat 100 Freestyle, Liam Dooley and Grant Pankratz went first and second, with Grant posting his second lifetime best time in the meet. Mitch Peotter swam the grueling 500 Freestyle event for the second time this season and dropped 15 seconds, achieving a personal best time while finishing in fourth place, while Matthew Wyatt beat all comers placing first in the event. The 200 Free Relay consisting of Dylan Nasser, Grant Pankratz, Kyle McCarty and Liam Dooley won the event, with the Valor’s B relay consisting of Chris Chen, Tristan Nieves,Tyler Armstrong and Mitch Peotter finishing in fourth. In the 100 Backstroke, Lenny Den was the victor and Kyle McCarty finished a strong third.  

In the final individual event, 100 Breaststroke, Valor shook the house and took home first through third places in the B heat(Alex Warren, Chris Chen, and Brian Redington, respectively), and took home first through third places in the A heat (Caleb Kim, Dylan Nasser, and Dylan Jessen). In the final relay event of the meet, the 400 Free Relay, Valor walked away with their final victory. The team consisted of Matthew Wyatt, Tristan Nieves, Lenny Den, and Liam Dooley.

The Eagles look forward to their Jeffco League Championships Friday and Saturday in Arvada and the State Championships at the Air Force Academy in two weeks.
