Boys lacrosse team travels to Florida, takes on top-ranked teams

Boys Lacrosse used their Spring Break to travel to Florida to take on two of the Sunshine State’s top teams.

The trip started with a game Tuesday night against perennial top team St Andrew’s in Boca Raton. The boys fought hard but were outmanned in the first half by a talented St Andrew’s squad who were very well coached by Denver Outlaw Coach Tony Seamon. The Eagle’s found their way and played an amazing second half on both sides of the ball. The momentum from the second half gave the squad a boost for the rest of the trip.

Wednesday started with a spirited two-hour morning practice followed by a team lunch. Our boys battled hard through heat and humidity and earned some time at the beach. The boys spent the afternoon swimming in the ocean and took to the beach volleyball courts to get in some heated competition. After the beach time, the squad settled back into the hotel for a very special pasta dinner catered into a meeting room. The boys broke bread together after a special blessing from team chaplain Allen Schroeder. Following the meal, Coach Schroeder planned a very important retreat time to work through lessons on the 21 ways to become a better teammate from the book “The Hard Hat.”

Thursday began with a shootaround and preparation for that evening’s game vs Oxbridge Academy.  The practice was crisp and clean and the boys looked ready to compete. The crew drove up to West Palm Beach ready to battle and although the score didn’t show it, the Eagles really played well. There was a marked unity in team performance and something to really build upon as they continue their season in Colorado.

The coaching staff couldn’t be more proud of the boy’s effort on the field and their behavior off of it. These young men represented Valor Christian and the Lord so well it was an amazing journey together that will pay dividends in the short and long term for this group.
