Girls Golf prepares to kickoff season with Valor Invitational

The girls golf team began its spring season the week of February 27 with four good practices and a great devotion followed by a performance workout on Friday. Team Chaplain Casey Willett will lead the team this season with weekly Friday devotionals focusing on the theme “Be Clutch”.  On Friday, we discussed how to “Put First Things First” in our Spiritual and Golf games.  Matthew 6:33 tells us to “. . . seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”  We are going to focus each day on the process of each player getting a little bit better, and the rest will take care of itself.
Our team captain, senior Tess Clark, will provide leadership this season for our juniors Izzy Marchino, Caroline Burger and Alex Benschneider, sophomores Morgan Hamler and Kelsey Spelts, and freshman Sam Schoenborn. The team should be competitive in the Jefferson County League and hopes to qualify for the State Tournament.  Competition will begin with Valor’s Invitational on March 16 at Highlands Ranch Golf Course, and the first Jeffco League tourney on March 21st Applewood Golf Course. After Practicum and Spring Break weeks, the team will compete in tournaments each week leading up to Regionals on May 9 at Eisenhower Golf Course in Colorado Springs. The State Tournament will be held on May 22-23 at Colorado National Golf Course in Erie.
Head Coach Scotty Hofer and Assistant Coach Stephanie Spencer are excited to work with and watch the girls grow in their spiritual and golf games this season. After practice and a couple of qualifying rounds this week, a local team retreat is planned for Friday and Saturday. Many fun activities are planned to help the team get to know each other better and build a solid foundation for the season.
