Starting in the 2019-2020 school year, the academic eligibility standard will be raised from a 2.0 to 2.3 GPA. This means that students must maintain a 2.3 GPA or higher in order to be eligible to participate in co-curricular activities.
We are implementing this new standard for two reasons:
- The current threshold of a 2.0 GPA puts students at risk of becoming NCAA ineligible or being unable to graduate. While we applaud all our student’s interests in co-curricular activities, our top priority is academic readiness.
- The 2.3 GPA standard will accelerate our awareness that a student is struggling with academic achievement, so we can intervene earlier and help our students improve their grades while continuing to participate in their co-curricular activities.
By implementing this standard along with grade checks every six weeks, we will be better equipped to monitor, intervene and support our students for excellence in the classroom.
